Ventures in Community’s next general monthly meeting, March 4, will feature a discussion with experts of how faith communities can help the immigrant and refugee communities in our region.
Rev. David Yocis, one of two VIC co-facilitators, said speakers will include an immigration attorney from Progreso, part of United Community that seeks to assist immigrants in our area with such programs as legal aid, and classes in English as a second language,.
Speakers from other groiups that work with immigrants and refugees are expected , Rev. Yocis said, including someone from the Congregational Action Network.
Because St. Luke’s is a VIC member, anyone from the church may attend these general meetings. VIC is a coalition of faith communities and non-profits. It advocates for and assists individuals, families and communities in need, primarily along the U.S. 1 corridor in this region.
The meeting will be held from 11:30 to 1 pm at the Sherwood Regional Library at 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane, Alexandria VA 22306. A light lunch will be served.
