The Diocese of Virginia is a part of the Episcopal Church in the United States, a denomination comprising 2.5 million members in 113 dioceses in the Americas and abroad. The Episcopal church was organized in 1789.
The word “episcopal” means “having bishops“ and reflects the importance of bishops as the outward and visible sign of our Christian unity and our heritage of the unbroken, historic faith of the first apostles.
