The Diocese of Virginia

St. Luke's Church is in the Diocese of Virginia which was founded in 1785 and is one of the oldest dioceses in the Episcopal Church in the United States.

The diocese is a community of more than 89,000 baptized members and 400 clergy in 38 counties of central, northern and northwestern Virginia, serving the world through 195 congregations, six schools, two diocesan centers, and six diocesan homes. It is also home to the largest Anglican seminary in the world.

The diocesan headquarters are located at the Mayo Memorial Church House in Richmond. An additional diocesan office is located on the campus of the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria. The cathedral seat of the Bishop of Virginia is the Shrine of the Transfiguration, the outdoor church on the grounds of the Shrine Mont conference center in Orkney Springs. The other conference center is Roslyn, located in Richmond. The diocesan newspaper is called “The Virginia Episcopalian”.

Our diocesan bishop is the Right Reverend Peter James Lee, 12th Bishop of Virginia. Our suffragan bishop is the Right Reverend David Colin Jones.
