Saying "thank you" to God by Serving Others

A reflection by Suzanne Reynolds

Dear Friends,

There is a hymn that I grew up with that has taken on special meaning for me since I began my journey serving on the vestry:

Living for Jesus a life that is true.

Trying to please him in all that I do.

Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,

This is the pathway of blessing for me.

O Jesus, Lord and Saviour, I give myself to thee;

For you, in your atonement, did give yourself for me;

I own no other Master, my heart shall be your throne.

My life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ, for you alone.

It’s not all about me. It is all about responding to life in a way that reflects the love that Christ has demonstrated for me. It’s about saying thank you to God by serving others, whether it be providing food for an event, or manning the bake sale table at the Craft Fair, or singing God’s praises during worship, or teaching music to preschool children, or creating blankets for children, or anything else that crosses my path.

So when I am asked to take on a task, I have to stop and think about how blessed I am to even be alive in this beautiful world, and blessed again with the opportunity to reach out to others in the love of Christ.
