We want to see Jesus.
In the week before his death some people (Greeks) come to the disciples and say, "We want to see Jesus." Jesus launches into a parable about his death and resurrection: " Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. " (John 12:20-32)
He is telling us that a crucial transformation from a life that is singular, self-limited, and unproductive into a multitudinous, communal life of unlimited productivity takes place in death. His own death, resurrection and ascension will provide this larger life for the world. We call this life "Church," the Body of Christ enlivened by the Holy Spirit. Each disciple dies to sin and rises transformed into a member of Christ's Body. Whereby Christ's life finds expression through works we do as His Church.
So when we want to see Jesus we must look at the whole Church, this wonderful and sacred mystery through which all things are being brought to perfection by him through whom all things were made.
If you want catch a glimpse of Jesus - come to the Spaghetti Supper Friday, March 20, or Sunday school and worship, or spend a night at the VIC HOP. The possibilities are unlimited.
