What does it mean for you to be a Christian? How does your Christian identity change the way you see the world, the decisions you make, your attitude? How does your Christian identity influence the way you interact with non-Christians? One of the meanings of our Christian identity is similar to the meaning of the rainbow after Noah's Flood. God set the rainbow in the sky to remind God never to destroy the creation again. It is God's way of acknowledging that sin will resurface, God will want to destroy sin, but God will adopt a different approach.
Like a rainbow, God puts the cross on our forehead and the Holy Spirit within us at baptism. God knows we will sin. But God will not destroy us. God will adopt a different approach.
But what about you? How does the cross on your forehead and the Holy Spirit within affect the approach you take to the challenges and opportunities of life? What does it mean for you to be a Christian? That's a good question to answer this Lent.
