Rector's Weekly Message

It may seem too early to mention, but Lent is coming, that great season in which we prepare to renew our Easter faith and life.  On Tuesday, February 17 we will have our annual Pancake Supper which for many of us here at St. Luke’s is all about the cheese grits!  On Shrove Tuesday we collect last year’s palms and burn them into ashes for use in our Ash Wednesday services, February 18.

On the Sundays of Lent, February 22, March 1, 8, 15, 22 we offer two special programs for the work of self examination, study, and prayer by which we renew and reaffirm our Easter faith.  Confirmation classes are offered from 11:30 to 1 pm each Sunday.  These classes are to help youth and adults prepare to confirm or reaffirm their faith when Bishop Goff visits on June 14.  Please let me know if you are interested in joining this group.

Sunday Evenings in Lent take place from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm each Sunday.  We have a potluck supper at 5:30, a brief worship at 6:30, and a program from 6:45 to 7:30.  This year the main program will be Hosanna: A Spiritual Journey through Holy Week, and will include an in depth look at how the New Testament presents the events of Palm Sunday (March 29), Maundy Thursday (April 2), Good Friday (April 3), and Easter (April 4-5).
