Rector's Weekly Message

This Sunday the collect (and readings) tells us to hear, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest the scriptures in order to embrace and hold fast the hope of everlasting life.

So how do you embrace that hope?  How do you hold onto it?  Is someone or something trying to take it away? Do you fear the approaching winter, with its threats of scarcity, disease, darkness, and death and wonder whether all the work to bring in the harvest of life will come to nothing?

Take heart.  Don't be afraid like Barak.  Be bold and fight for God like Jael. (Judges 4) Don't be afraid like those who have no light. Encourage one another to live in the light of Christ.  (1 Thessalonians 5) Don't be afraid like the one who buries his treasure. Put your treasure to work to build up the kingdom of God. (Matthew 25)

Trust God is keeping the promise made to you in Christ, sealed on your forehead at your Baptism.  Hold fast to the hope given to the whole world in Jesus.  Serve God with all that you are and all that you have.
