In Sunday's reading Paul writes to the Thessalonians, "So deeply do we care for you that we are determined to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you have become very dear to us." This is a reminder to us that the Gospel is not merely a message. It is an experience of God sharing God's own self with us. It is the experience of sharing our lives with each other in Christ and re-oriented our lives around the loving-kindness of God. Walking the way of Christian life is never solitary. God walks in and with and through us. Not as mere individuals, but a members of his one Body. We can feel Christ with Paul, and with the Thessalonians, and also with us, looking out over the changes and opportunities of our lives and saying, "What shall we make of this together?" Throughout our discernment and response to this question God gives us this path to walk: Love the Lord with all your heart, and mind, and strength; and love your neighbor as yourself.
